Relaunch with WordPress: Kurpfalz-Internat Replaces Typo3 with a Modern MultiSite System
Kurpfalz-Internat in Bammental is now presenting itself on a new, future-proof website — modern, structured, and optimized for all target groups. The comprehensive relaunch included a complete CMS switch from Typo3 to WordPress as well as the technical and editorial migration of around 900 pages of content. The new system is based on a high-performance WordPress MultiSite architecture, operated together with the sister school Schloss Torgelow, which forms the digital foundation for both locations.
Clearly structured for parents, students & applicants
The new web design pursues one central goal: making information clearly findable — regardless of whether parents are making a decision, students are gathering impressions, or potential employees are looking for open positions.
Through individually configurable sections, intelligent navigation, and an SEO-optimized structure, content was logically organized and presented in engaging reading flows. The user guidance is deliberately streamlined but functionally strong — an advantage especially on mobile devices.
Technically up to date — including AI readiness
The new website is built on the latest web standards: PHP 8+, MySQL 8, server-side caching systems, and an easy-to-maintain backend. Additionally, the foundation was laid for future AI integrations: from automated translation to structured data for AI search systems like Google SGE or ChatGPT.
Structured data for optimal findability: Another central element of the relaunch was the implementation of structured data according to Schema.org standards. This ensures that search engines and AI systems can clearly understand and index the content.
Especially for a school with a diverse offering — from boarding school to events like open days — this creates the foundation for a future-proof presence in the AI age of search. The structured data was implemented based on current Schema.org standards and is prepared for all main areas.
All content is managed through a central system — with the option to create any number of language versions and subpages (e.g. for new projects or thematic one-pagers). In addition to all the technology, individual icons were also created, just as in the Schloss Torgelow project.
Migration from Typo3 to WordPress — including redirects & SEO maintenance
The previous website was based on a Typo3 system. It was important for the client to find a contact from their personal network, and it wasn’t easy to find the best Typo3 agency with the optimal fit for the project. So they decided to go with us, 4eck Media, as one of the top agencies for WordPress. To avoid losing any visibility, great importance was placed on an SEO-compliant migration during the switch:
- existing URLs were redirected sensibly
- an SEO sprint was carried out to optimize on-page quality (old site had a Seobility score of 67, the new one 94)
- Accessibility according to WCAG 2.1 AA was ensured
- meta data, alt texts & Open Graph content were optimized
- sitemap and robots.txt were realigned
Additionally, external links were reviewed and adjusted — an important point for a project of this size.
One system, two schools — many possibilities
Kurpfalz-Internat and Schloss Torgelow belong to the same sponsoring family and will share the technological foundation going forward: a high-performance, individually expandable WordPress MultiSite installation. This means admins can manage everything from one backend, which simplifies maintenance and updates — with a clear division of roles for editors, who only have access to their own school and not to areas of the other boarding school.
This allows design, content, and functions to be managed in a targeted way without creating redundancies — ideal for school operators with multiple locations or educational institutions with complex structures.
