---

Anyone looking for a tax adviser is rarely looking for the cheapest one. They are looking for someone they can trust with their company’s figures. Today, that decision is made on a website, often weeks before the first phone call.

SEDULUS from Cottbus does not make this easy. The firm promotes itself with the line: Taxes. Simple. Digital. Unexpectedly easy. And sexy. Anyone who presents themselves this way needs a website that maintains that tone while leaving no doubt about the professional substance behind it. That was exactly what this project was about.

## A firm that dares to sound different

SEDULUS is not an acronym made up of its founders’ names. The letters stand for Taxes, Simple, Digital, Unexpected, Easy, And, Sexy. The tax advisory firm is run by three managing directors: Frank Kretschmer, Randy Gnädig and Thomas Troppa.

The team brings together more than 70 years of tax adviser experience. More than 900 clients across Germany are looked after, the average age is 41 and the average length of service is 6.9 years. Google shows a rating of 5.0 out of 5 stars from more than 20 reviews. Figures like these are why this presence can be relaxed. An easy tone works only when the substance behind it is right.

The firm is based at Lessingstraße 7 in the heart of Cottbus and works digitally: DATEV Unternehmen Online, cloud access and digital receipt processing. The previous presence showed little of this. That is not a criticism. Websites age, and a digital business card eventually becomes a sales and recruitment tool.

## A design that remains professional while still showing character

Visually, tax advisory firm websites usually end up in one of two dead ends: a stock-photo handshake in front of a glass facade, or a template layout that could just as easily suit an insurer, a law firm or a car dealership.

For SEDULUS, we worked with a deep midnight blue and a warm gold. The blue conveys professionalism and gives large images calm, while the gold guides users through the navigation, buttons and key figures. A serif typeface for headings gives the presence weight without appearing old-fashioned. The homepage displays four figures directly beneath the hero: 70 years of experience, 900 clients, an average age of 41 and an average length of service of 6.9 years. The average age is deliberate, serving as a recruitment signal to young professionals.

The visual world comes from Cottbus and the firm itself. No bought smiling faces, but the real team, the real rooms and the city in which the clients are based. That is why our [web design agency](https://4eck-media.de/en/competencies/ui-ux-web-development-agency-4eck-media/) does not begin such projects with colour palettes, but with the question of what evidence an entrepreneur is looking for before picking up the phone.

## 21 service pages instead of a bullet-point list

The greatest content work lies in the structure. A tax advisory firm does not do one thing; it does twenty. Someone searching for business succession has different questions from someone facing a tax audit or a founder looking for funding.

That is why there are 21 individual service pages instead of one catch-all page with bullet points. Financial accounting and payroll accounting, annual financial statements, tax audits, start-ups, funding advice, digital processes, business succession, inheritance and gifts, foundations, restructurings, expert opinions and business valuations, EEIGs and more. Each page answers a distinct search query, has its own headings and examples, and links to the thematically relevant neighbouring pages.

This means Google does not have to guess from an overloaded page whether the firm is relevant for tax audits, setting up foundations or payroll accounting. Each search intent gets its own destination. This separation is the core of a clean [on-page SEO structure](https://4eck-media.de/en/competencies/onpage-seo-optimization-website-analysis-search-engine-optimization-4eck-media/) and works just as well for AI systems because a clearly delimited text is easier to quote than a paragraph from a catch-all page.

## For clients: DATEV, cloud access and everyday essentials

One area of the website is aimed not at new prospects but at existing clients. It contains access to DATEV Unternehmen Online, cloud access, an explanation of DigiBel and a tool for checking VAT identification numbers.

That may sound unremarkable, but it saves real time in the day-to-day work of the firm. Every client who finds their own access does not call the office. For a firm, a website is not just advertising; it also provides relief.

## Four open positions and forms that actually arrive

The shortage of skilled workers affects tax advisory firms more severely than many other sectors. SEDULUS is currently seeking tax specialists, tax clerks, certified accountants and payroll accountants. Every role has its own page with responsibilities, requirements, benefits and an application form directly below it, including upload fields for a cover letter and CV.

With the forms, we learned a lesson from this project that cost us time. The forms were integrated correctly from a technical perspective, the server accepted the submissions, and yet nothing arrived in the first test. The cause was two layers deeper: the theme removes the jQuery library supplied by WordPress for performance reasons, while the form plugin relies on it. Without that dependency, WordPress silently does not load the script, with no browser error and no log entry.

You do not find such errors by simply looking at a page. You find them because someone actually submits the form after going live and then checks the database. That is exactly why a real form test appears in our [post-go-live checklist](https://4eck-media.de/en/blog/website-launch-checklist-what-separates-quality-from-botched-work-after-go-live/), not just before launch. Today, jQuery loads only on the seven pages with forms, in the footer rather than the head. All other pages work without it.

## Why we measure every website on two servers

Now for the part that is almost always missing from case studies. We measured sedulus.eu twice: once on our own development server and once on the firm’s live server. Same code, same content, same images, same theme. The only difference is the hardware underneath.

![](https://4eck-media.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/sedulus-server-pagespeed-tablets-93-vs-79-1.png)

| Measurement, mobile | Our development server | The firm’s live server |
| --- | --- | --- |
| PageSpeed performance | 93/100 | 79/100 |
| Accessibility | 100/100 | 100/100 |
| Best Practices | 100/100 | 100/100 |
| Agentic Browsing | 3/3 | 3/3 |
| Agent-Ready Scan | 86, Level 5 | 71, Level 5 |
| TTFB without cache | 0.35 s | 1.15 s |
| Protocol | HTTP/2 | HTTP/1.1 |

Fourteen points’ difference without a single line of code being different. The live server runs on an older shared hosting package that the firm brought with it from before the relaunch. It still uses HTTP/1.1, which means stylesheets and scripts wait in groups of six rather than loading in parallel. It also takes about 1.15 seconds to deliver the first byte for an uncached page, while our server manages it in 0.35 seconds.

A page cache conceals this in day-to-day use. Anyone opening a page that has already been visited receives it in 0.19 seconds. But that applies only to warm pages. The first request after a change, every rarely visited subpage and every bot pays the full price.

## What the server has to do with visibility

Speed is a ranking factor. Not the most important one, nobody seriously claims that, but it is measurable. Google uses the Core Web Vitals to assess what real users experience, and this data contributes to a page’s evaluation. More important than a score in a testing tool is the experience: on a slow page, visitors leave before they see the contact form.

There is also a second, still young layer. AI systems retrieve page content live when answering a question. They have a time budget for this. We looked more closely at the widely circulated limit of 600 milliseconds and found no reliable source for it in our [analysis of TTFB and AI search](https://4eck-media.de/en/blog/ttfb-in-ai-search-optimisation-why-we-measure-and-optimise-geo-case-study/). Nevertheless, one thing remains true: anyone who responds late risks falling out of context. A server that takes more than a second for a cold page works against itself here.

That is why hosting is part of the project for us, not a footnote. A good theme can compensate for a lot; a weak package cannot. Where it makes sense, we plan [PageSpeed optimisation](https://4eck-media.de/en/competencies/pagespeed-optimization-making-websites-measurably-faster/) together with a server migration because the two work together. For sedulus.eu, a move to a package with HTTP/2 and an object cache is the next step. The 93 points from the development server show what is realistic afterwards.

## Visible to Google, understandable for AI systems

More and more people no longer ask Google but ChatGPT: which tax adviser in Cottbus is right for my business? Whether a firm appears in that answer depends on how well its content can be read by machines.

sedulus.eu provides an llms.txt with a content overview, a Markdown version of every page, an API catalogue and a read-only MCP server through which an assistant can query pages and posts in a structured way. In the Agent-Ready Scan, the website reaches Level 5, the highest level. Content and Bot Access Control each score 100 points.

![](https://4eck-media.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/sedulus-server-ai-visibility-tablets-86-vs-71-1.png)

Here too, the server separates the results: 86 versus 71 points. The difference lies in the Link headers that show assistants the way to a page’s Markdown version. The page cache on the live server delivers finished HTML files and omits those headers. We therefore excluded 21 known AI bots from the cache, including GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. They receive the full response including Markdown negotiation. The scanner itself does not identify as such a bot and therefore sees the cached version. It is a good example of how a test result and the actual situation can differ.

How we generally prepare content for AI systems is set out in our [GEO framework](https://4eck-media.de/en/blog/the-4eck-geo-framework-for-ai-visibility-ai-recommendations/). As a [GEO agency](https://4eck-media.de/en/competencies/llm-geo-ai-optimization/), we check in projects like these whether language models can find, understand and cite the content.

![SEDULUS website with a Seobility on-page score of 96 percent](https://4eck-media.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/sedulus-seobility-onpage-96-1.avif)

The Seobility audit confirms the structure from the classic website perspective: a 96 percent on-page score, 100 percent for technology and metadata, 95 percent for content and 94 percent for structure. Forty-one pages were crawled, 38 of which are indexable. Not a single page is blocked for Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot or Claude-SearchBot.

## Accessibility with evidence, not just a good feeling

The German Accessibility Strengthening Act has applied since June 2025. It does not directly affect every tax advisory firm website, but the direction is clear, and anyone building anew anyway should get it right from the start.

We do not use overlay plugins that display an accessibility control bar by script and promise accessibility. We dissected why that is not a solution in a [dedicated analysis](https://4eck-media.de/en/blog/plugins-dont-create-accessibility-but-rather-new-problems-an-analysis/). Accessibility arises from structure: meaningful heading hierarchy, sufficient contrast, usable forms, descriptive alternative text and working keyboard navigation.

![](https://4eck-media.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/sedulus-accessibility-audits-illustration-1.png)

Two independent checks confirm the result. AccessibilityChecker awards 90 out of 100 points with zero critical problems and 51 passed tests. accessScan by accessiBe also reaches 90 and classifies the page as accessible. We additionally ran axe-core ourselves across the most important pages: zero WCAG 2.1 AA violations. As an [agency for accessible websites](https://4eck-media.de/en/competencies/accessibility-for-your-websites-web-design-agency/), we note that 22 criteria must be checked manually. An automated test alone is never the full evidence.

## Security: A+ for the publicly verifiable protection layer

![Security Headers test of the SEDULUS website with the top rating of A+](https://4eck-media.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/website-steuerberater-sedulus-security-headers-a-plus.jpg)

Security headers are the part of protection that anyone can check externally. sedulus.eu achieves an A+ rating at SecurityHeaders with a complete set: Content-Security-Policy, Strict-Transport-Security, X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy and Permissions-Policy. There is also what cannot be seen from outside: a hidden login path, no PHP access in the theme directory, no accessible Git data and clear update rules.

## Why we take screenshots of testing tools at all

A legitimate question: why do we fill a case study with figures from external tools? Because that is precisely the difference between a claim and evidence.

Every agency writes that it builds fast, secure and accessible websites. Nobody can verify that. A screenshot from PageSpeed Insights, SecurityHeaders or a WCAG test, on the other hand, can be reproduced by anyone in two minutes, free of charge. This puts us under pressure, and that is exactly the point. The ten tools we use before and after every go-live are [documented here](https://4eck-media.de/en/blog/checking-a-website-the-10-tools-we-use-to-test-every-website-before-and-after-go-live/).

Two limitations belong here. First, all values are snapshots, measured between 9 and 10 August 2026. A plugin update or a new image can shift them. Second, a tool measures only what it can measure. The Agent-Ready Scan above is the best example: 71 points, although real AI bots receive considerably more.

![](https://4eck-media.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/sedulus-open-graph-social-preview-illustration-1.png)

One small but essential detail that many leave out: when a link to the website is shared in WhatsApp, LinkedIn or Slack, a preview image appears in the correct format with a suitable title and description. For sedulus.eu, the test reports zero errors and an image measuring 1200 by 630 pixels.

## What other firms can take away from this project

- A dedicated page for each service outperforms a long catch-all page as soon as there is a distinct search query for it.
- A personal tone is not a risk when the figures behind it are right. It is the only way to escape interchangeability.
- The client area saves time in the office and should therefore be planned just as carefully as the homepage.
- Forms should be genuinely submitted once after going live, with a look at the database and mail log. A green tick in the backend proves nothing.
- The server is part of the project. The same website delivers 79 or 93 points depending on the hosting.
- What can be measured should be measured and documented, before going live and once again afterwards.

## Frequently asked questions about websites for tax advisers

How many subpages does a tax advisory firm website need?

That depends on the range of services, not on a desired number. For SEDULUS, 21 service pages made sense because the firm covers a broad spectrum from payroll accounting to setting up foundations. A smaller firm may manage with eight pages. The rule is simple: a dedicated page is worthwhile when there is a distinct search query and enough professional substance for more than three paragraphs.

How long does a website project like this take?

For sedulus.eu, roughly three months passed between project start and going live, including concept, design, development, content and testing. The biggest time factor is almost never the technology but the content: copy, photos and approvals.

Does a tax advisory firm website have to be accessible?

The German Accessibility Strengthening Act has applied since June 2025 and primarily affects services for consumers in electronic commerce. Whether an individual firm falls within its scope should be checked legally. Regardless, there is much to recommend it: accessible pages are better structured, easier to use and easier for both search engines and AI systems to process.

Does a dedicated careers page really bring applications?

It is the prerequisite. More important than the page itself is that every role has its own URL with responsibilities, requirements and a working form. Tax clerks search via Google and on mobile, not through a PDF in the downloads section.

Why is the server important for visibility?

Because the same website responds at different speeds on different hardware. For sedulus.eu, it is 93 versus 79 PageSpeed points with identical code. Speed is one of many ranking factors and also a factor in whether a visitor stays and whether an AI system retrieves the page within its time budget.

How is a firm found by ChatGPT and similar systems?

Through clearly structured content, clean local-business markup, an llms.txt, machine-readable versions of pages and open access for the providers’ bots. sedulus.eu achieves Level 5 in the Agent-Ready Scan. Anyone blocking all AI bots through robots.txt is not present in these answers.

## Your firm works digitally. Your website should show it.

Tax advice is built on trust, and today trust develops before the first conversation. A website that clearly separates services, works on smartphones, responds quickly and is also understood by AI systems works for the firm while the team prepares financial statements.
